Job Description The Howard R. Swearer Center encourages community participation, activism, and civic responsibility as central parts of a Brown education. It supports public involvement through community work, by helping students connect service and learning, by encouraging university/community partnerships, and by building opportunities for the development of leadership skills among participants. The Swearer Center has four fall staffing positions open. Each position will provide general office support, and work in one of the following content areas: Social Innovation Initiative Communications, Swearer Center Communications, Engaged Scholars Programs, and K-12 Education. For full position descriptions, visit: General office support includes the following: Develop understanding of the Center’s mission and values • Meet with and learn about full-time staff • Serve as point-person for Center’s reception area • Answer telephone, take messages, run campus errands.
Job Requirements Additional job requirements: • Responsible, committed, reliable, creative, patient, and resourceful • Strong organizational, interpersonal and written and oral communication skills – this is especially important as staffers are the first point of contact for visitors and ambassadors for the Swearer Center • Interest and commitment to public service; prior knowledge of and experience with Swearer Center preferred • Ability to work collaboratively, with diverse constituencies, and manage multiple projects at one time • Experience working independently • Candidates who are available for the full academic year will be given priority Please send resume and a brief cover letter, which includes specific position (SII Communications, Swearer Communications, Engaged Scholars Program, and K-12 education) you're applying for to: Deadline for is 5 pm, Friday, May 1, 2015.
