Job Description The Black Student Initiative Coordinator (BSI) fosters community among the various Black student groups on campus. In addition to being aware of community needs and communicating those needs to the administration, the Black Student Initiative coordinator maintains a close relationship with Black Alumni, specifically, the Inman Page Black Alumni Council (IPC). BSI coordinators spearhead the ONYX Rites of Passage Ceremony, an annual commencement event. Responsibilities include: - Planning and organizing at least ONE Blackboard meeting monthly, and striving for attendance from all Black student groups - Maintaining a current list of all the leaders in the various Black organizations - Drafting BSI’s weekly newsletter gathering student group and BCSC events that specifically focus on issues pertinent to the Black community - Updating the Black Activities calendar weekly - Fostering collaboration and communication between the various groups within Blackboard and with Black students - Aiding Black student groups in event planning and in the promotion of their events - Planning and executing the annual ONYX Rites of Passage Commencement Dinner - Communication and collaboration with the Asian American Student Initiatives, Latinx Student Initiatives, and with Heritage Series programmers - Attendance at all monthly BCSC staffer meetings
Job Requirements - Must be an undergraduate student at Brown University in good academic standing - Familiarity and knowledge of issues relevant and of interest to Black students at Brown - Possess an understanding of group dynamics and basic conflict management skills - Dedication to promoting campus awareness about diversity issues - Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills along with basic social media proficiency - Willingness to compromise, collaborate, and work independently in a manner that is in the best interests of the community

Hourly Rate $10.40/hour to $12.00/hour, Stipend of $655 per semester.
