Job Description Applications are "due" on April 3, and selected candidates will be interviewed. Overview: The Curricular Resource Center for Peer Advising (CRC) is a place where students help each other engage with Brown's open curriculum and utilize its academic resources. Founded in 1976 to support the fullest use of the New Curriculum, today the CRC's Director, student coordinators and volunteers coordinate information sessions, community-building events, and individual meetings with students for advising about independent studies and concentrations, applying for funding opportunities, issues related to the sophomore year, and more. The CRC staff works with other departments and peer advising programs to best provide a broad spectrum of advice about the wealth of curricular resources at Brown. The CRC is a part of the Office of the Dean of the College. Position: The Independent Studies Coordinators help undergraduate students create Group Independent Study Projects (GISPs), Independent Study Projects (ISPs), and Academic Internships for credit (AIs). The coordinators work in collaboration with the CRC Director to plan informational sessions and workshops about the proposal process, and she/he/they meet with students one-on-one or communicates with them via email to answer their questions about these options, and about the Global Independent Studies option through the Office of International Programs and the Departmental Independent Study option through academic departments. The IS Coordinators publicize and promote the independent studies curricular option campus wide to students, faculty and staff, thus raising the visibility of IS and creating a community of learning and support. The IS Coordinators serve as members of the College Curriculum Council sub-committee on independent studies to make decisions about the proposals. In addition, the coordinators plan an end-of-semester "(G)ISP Talks" event, and maintain an update-to-date database of past independent studies. They also help plan an information session for new GISP faculty sponsors at the start of each semester. The selected candidates must be willing to meet with the current student coordinators for at least one hour of training sometime in April/May 2018.
