Job Description The Brown Center for Students of Color (BCSC) provides an arena in which students can explore cultural heritages and learn about race and ethnicity as components of American identity. The Center provides a variety of services, support, and outreach to the Brown student body to promote both academic and co-curricular achievement. Programs of the Center include, but are not limited to: Third World Transition Program (TWTP), Minority Peer Counselor (MPC) and Black (BHS), Latino (LHS), Asian/Asian American (AAHS), Native American (NAHS) and Multiracial Heritage Series (MRHS). The Office Assistant is an ambassador of the BCSC and is held to the same level of accountability as other student staff within the Center, in promoting the mission and vision of the Center to serve the Brown community. The Office Assistant is expected to notify the Coordinator for First Year and Sophomore Programs when not reporting for work as scheduled and are otherwise expected to be punctual and reliable when reporting for work.
Job Requirements Staffing the the BCSC front desk and greeting all visitors to the Center. Answering calls and responding appropriately to inquiries. Maintaining order and cleanliness of the Center’s facilities. Mail pickup and delivery. Logging in and checking out BCSC equipment (projector, etc). Mandatory attendance to fall and spring trainings and monthly all staffer meetings. Updating publications on front table and bulletin boards. Assisting with programming and promotions. Tabulation of evaluations from major programs including heritage series and Minority Peer Counselor (MPC). Preparation of sign in sheets for BCSC related events (e.g., Dean’s Open Hours, staffer meetings, etc.) Weekly meetings with the Coordinators. Help with setup for BCSC-related events. Good time management skills. Good academic and judicial standing. Interest in issues of social justice and identity. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently. Ability to work efficiently in a busy office environment. *Must be able to cover shifts 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. or 1 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Other duties as assigned.
